Solar Power Plant
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.
India is in the sunny regions of the world with most parts of the country receiving 47 kwh (kilowatt hour) of solar radiation per square meter per day, 250 300 sunny days in a year. Even though Solar energy constitutes a miniscule part in India’s installed power generation capacity (with grid connected solar PV generation at a mere 6 MW as of March 2010), in the medium and long run, it is expected that solar energy, especially solar PV will form a vital component of the country's energy mix.
